    BIOGRAPHIES
of the band and its members

    THE BAND

    SHARON, CAROLINE, JIM and ANDREA

The Corrs lived fairly ordinairy lives before their current success. Within their band, all of the Corrs share in songwriting, they all contribute to the group's vocals, and each is adept at playing piano.

The Corr siblings are the children of musicians Jean and Gerry Corr of Dundalk, Ireland. The parents strongly encouraged their offspring to pursue music from their earliest years. The group first performed together as a band when they auditioned to play in the 1991 musical film The Commitments. Andrea, the youngest Corr, won a small speaking role in the film. The movie's musical director John Hughes saw potential in the band and became their manager.

In 1994 The Corrs landed a recording contract with renowned producer David Foster of Atlantic Records (USA). Their debut album was "Forgiven, Not Forgotten" (1995), followed by "Talk on Corners" (1997), "In Blue" (2000), "Borrowed Heaven" (2004) and "Home" (late 2005). Their 1998 cover of Fleetwood Mac's Dreams was a big hit, and their single Breathless was very popular in 2000.

    ANDREA

Andrea, the youngest Corr, is the lead singer and she acts as the spokesperson for the group when they are on stage. She particularly enjoys sharing songwriting duties and within the group she takes the lead in writing lyrics. She wrote the tune and the lyrics for the band's smash hit "Breathless". As an instrumentalist Andrea more than holds her own when she plays the tin whistle. She has been described as an artistic romantic. Outside of the group Andrea has done acting in the movies The Commitments, Evita, and The Boys from County Clare. And in the animated film Quest for Camelot she provided the lead character's singing voice. She has been appearing on stage in a dramatic role at London's Old Vic theater as of March 2009. Andrea released a solo album "Ten Feet High" in 2007.

    CAROLINE

Caroline is the drummer and she sets the tempo for the band on most songs. Her energetic performances have won increasing admiration from fellow musicians around the world, and she was named Musician Of The Year at the 2002 Hotpress Awards. Caroline also plays the bodhrán (see the photo above, right). Caroline is the middle sister, and despite being the quietest Corr she seems to be the most popular with the fans. She took the lead in writing the songs "Runaway", "Somebody for Someone" and "One Night". Caroline got married in 2002 and has three children.

    JIM

On stage Jim shifts quickly between playing rhythm guitar and playing keyboards. He also contributes background vocals. Jim plays a large role in arranging the group's songs and producing their albums in the studio. He co-wrote the songs "Give Me a Reason" and "Give It All Up". Jim took the lead in initially forming the band and he continues to help manage the band's business matters. He typically works in the background and in the band's public interviews he often defers to his attractive sisters.

    SHARON

Sharon's violin playing along with Caroline's drumming form the rhythmic axis of the band's performances. Sharon's violin is a prime element in the group's distinctive Irish sound. She is also the group's most prominent background vocalist. Her personal musical tastes run the gamut from Erik Satie to Mick Jagger. She is certified as a violin teacher and for a time she managed a music shop. Sharon is the eldest sister and often takes a lead in speaking for the band during interviews. She got married in 2001 and has two children. She will release a solo album in 2009.

The Corrs have joined with many other musicians to oppose downloads of music that have not been paid for.

Jim Corr says: Most people would not dream of stealing a CD from their local record store. In the same way, we don't think its cool to go cyber shoplifting .... We have done okay, but we have got to protect the new artists who need the capital to keep going.

Sharon Corr says: It is not just the musicians. A lot of time, effort and money goes into the production of our CDs, involving record producers and technicians whose interests have to be protected.

If you respect The Corrs and other musicians and the music they make, please show your support by buying their music.
